Weekly Update
Week of May 26, 2024
HURRAY: It is hard to believe we are completing our last week of second grade this week. Thank you for helping make this year one to remember! Summer is a time to recharge and relax but remember to continue your child’s reading routine to maintain all the good habits developed this year. Summer writing journals can help create a book of fun summer memories or document new wonders your child learns. The Summer Challenge, Maude Preston Library Summer Program, RAZ, IXL and Prodigy are great ways to maintain skills throughout the summer.
LEAVING EARLY: If your child will be ending the school year earlier than Friday please let us know. I have a special project planned in the final days. It is incredibly helpful to know ahead of time if your child will not be in attendance. Thank you
Thank you: Thank you to all our parents who were able to join us on our field trip downtown on Friday. It was a beautiful day and without you, these types of trips would not be possible. A special thank you to our parents for managing the candy, hauling our water/snacks, and passing out snacks at the parade site.
WORD WORK: We will be reviewing syllable patterns for our final week of word work. Please remember to use Spelling City throughout the summer to help your child maintain their skills.
Kiwanis Park Walk / Picnic / Play: Tuesday, May 27th our second grades are heading to Kiwanis for fun, food, and games at 11:15 a.m. and returning to school approximately 1:45. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear walking shoes, and sunscreen. Students will need a sack lunch if you did not order one from school. PARENTS AND YOUNGER SIBLINGS ARE WELCOME.
Staff vs 5th Graders kickball game Wednesday, May 28th
Parent Volunteers are needed to help monitor our two second grade classes while the staff plays kickball against the fifth graders on Wednesday, May 28 at 10:30 - 11:30. The schedule is as follows:
SUNSCREEN: Please remember we can not apply sunscreen to your child and there is not usually time for application at school. If you want your child to wear sunscreen, please apply before coming to school.
Library Books: We have a few library books that are still missing. Please help your child look for these valuable books if he or she has not returned them all.
