Weekly Update

Word Work: Our class will be reviewing all the words that they have learned this year. This includes

          the following..... 

• -vce words like pine

• r-controlled words like star, flower, bird, corn, and burn, 

• the /oo/ syllable pattern as in blue, moon, youth

• the /ou/ syllable pattern as in count and  town

• adding -ed and -ing endings to words

• the three sounds that -ed makes in words: /t/, /ed or id/, /d/ such as

                finished, acted, and yelled

• suffixes tion and sion as in the words celebration, information, passion,

                and vision

Math:  Second graders are starting Unit 3: Measuring Length. We will have opportunities to measure

using inches and centimeters. Students will also relate measurements to using a number line. Our second

graders continue working on mastering their addition and subtraction facts through 20.

Science: In our new unit, Work of Water students will explore how water shapes the Earth's surface.

Students construct and use models of mountains to demonstrate that water flows downhill, and in the

process, transforms huge rocks into the tiny grains of sand we find at the beach. Students will also

construct and use model hills to determine the causes of erosion, and to design solutions to problems

caused by erosion.  Please ask your child what he or she has learned this week. 

Holiday Breakfast:Mark your calendars for the Lincoln Holiday Breakfast on Dec. 7th!  The morning is open-house style,

so come anytime between 9-11:00.  There will be a pancake breakfast, a holiday craft for students, and

the Book Fair will be open to shop in the Media Center.   There is no cost for this event, we just ask that

you RSVP by clicking here so that we can get a headcount for food.

*We also need a lot of volunteers that morning so please click here to see how you can help! 

Winter Party:  Our winter party will be held on December 20, from 12:45-1:45.  I will be

sending an email to those parents who signed up to help at Back to School Night.  If you

missed the sign up and would like to help or attend the party, please contact me by email

by Monday, December 2nd. Please remember you must fill out the volunteer forms before

helping at our parties.
