WORD WORK: Our class will be learning about the -ch, -tch, and -ture syllable pattern this week. You will notice this is the same as last week.  Due to our many days off last week, we will learn this pattern this week instead.  Our syllable pattern makes the sound as luggage, ridge, and mixture.

NEARING THE END OF EL MODULE 2:  This week starts the last unit of Module 2.  Students have learned a lot about what it means to be a paleontologist, the fossilization process impacted by sand, tar, ice and sap, as well as many other wonderful vocabulary.  We now begin the final performance task where students create a narrative about discovering a fossil.  Be sure to ask your child what they enjoy the most about the subject of fossils.

ICE SKATING: Our rescheduled Lincoln School Skating day is FINALLY here!  It will be Tuesday, January 28th.  We will leave the school at 12:30, skate from 12:45-1:30 and return to school at 1:40.    If you are available to help fit skates and would like to join the fun, please make sure your volunteer paperwork is completed in the office.  Thank you

BOOK ORDER:  Over a week ago a flyer for the January book order came home.  All orders should be submitted by Monday, January 27th at 8AM.   If you like to shop our class page, click here.  If you would like to see additional flyers, click here.

VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY: LAST CALL TO BE ON THE LIST TO JOIN  It is really hard to believe that our last classroom party is just around the corner.  Our Valentine’s Day party will be held on Friday, February 14th, from 12:45-1:45.  Please remember you must fill out the volunteer forms before helping at our parties. You can access the class list here or at its own link on the blog.

SCIENCE & CULTURE NIGHT:  Science & Culture Night will be this week on January 30th from 6-8pm. Students (must be accompanied by an adult) get to experience three 25 minute presentations, which range from hands-on art lessons to learning about animals to experiencing power first-hand! If you need more information please contact Catherine Kirshenbaum.  In addition, during that event, Mrs. Knuth will be hosting a session to outline our reading and math intervention and how our Title I funds are used at Lincoln School. You can join her at the first session if you would like to hear more. Kids are welcome to go to other events while you listen.

SARETT NATURE CENTER FIELD TRIP: Our second graders will be traveling to Sarett Nature Center on March 6th in the morning from 9:45-10:30.  We will be learning about maple sugaring and need to dress for the weather.  Parents are welcome to join us at Sarett but there is an admission fee.  More information will be coming soon.  Please email me if you are planning to attend as there is specific information you need to know.
