   3/7

  We have gym.

WORD WORK: Our class will be learning to read and write words with common affixes such as en-, em-, ex-, and new words with the schwa sound, /ə/, spelled with a.  The following words are examples: enable, embrace, expression, around, amaze, comma, and panda.

IT IS STILL WINTER:  Please remember students are expected to wear a coat if it is below 50 degrees.  Please also know that our school’s proximity to the lake and common north winds means cooler temperatures than what is often predicted in the weather forecasts.  We appreciate your help in making sure your child is dressed for the three outside recesses.

MARCH IS READING MONTH: Reading Month is here! We will be participating in the March Book Madness. This is a book competition started by 2 teachers from Ohio in 2015. This is my 5th year participating and it is incredible how much the students LOVE it. I have the link to the bracket in the google classroom as well as a page with links to the books in YouTube. Please note that on our school computers, videos go straight to reading and skip ads. This may not be the case on your home computers. Let me know if you have any questions.

DR. HOLLY WOODWARD BALLARD Q & A SESSION: Our second graders district-wide will meet paleontologist, Dr. Holly Woodward Ballard this coming Wednesday from 10:30 - 11:00.  What a treat!

LINCOLN TALENT SHOW: The 2nd grade will not be traveling to the high school to watch the talent show on Tuesday due to our question and answer session. Fortunately, it is being recorded so we can watch it with our popcorn on Friday.

SARETT NATURE CENTER TRIP: Our second graders will be traveling to Sarett on Thursday, March 6th from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. to learn about maple sugaring. Parents are welcome to attend at a cost of $4.00 per person. Please plan on meeting your second grader at Sarett. It will be important to dress for the weather with boots since much of the time will be spent outdoors.
